Lone u.S. Marshal the only one assigned to antarctica must investigate a murder and track down a serial killer on the frozen continent within three days before the dark winter begins. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 01/19/2010 Starring: Kate BeckinsaleBaby, it's cold outside: that's the problem for U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), the only law-enforcement officer assigned to Antarctica. On the verge of shipping out before the really bad weather hits, Carrie is confronted with a mysterious murder that sounds like a riddle: how'd a lone corpse find its way to the middle of an ice field, as though dropped from a great height? And what's this have to do with the prologue about a Soviet fighter jet crashing some decades earlier? Whiteout, based on the graphic novel by Gr! eg Rucka, solves these questions in a brisk if mostly preposterous manner, and it moves swiftly enough so you don't have to spend too much time on the plausibility of it all. Among the other snowbound stragglers are a U.N. investigator (Gabriel Macht, of The Spirit), some cocky pilots (Alex O'Laughlin, Columbus Short), and a grizzled doctor (Tom Skerritt). If the presence of Skerritt conjures up memories of Alien, with its ten-little-Indians structure and female warrior, hold on--Whiteout doesn't actually have a supernatural twist to it, and Beckinsale is no Sigourney Weaver. But director Dominic Sena (undistinguished by his cheesy film Swordfish) puts the screws to the material in a relentless way, and the vast exteriors (shot in Canada) are impressive. And when it comes to one particular wow-you're-really-going-there instance of potential amputation for a main character, the film doesn't back down. In fact it sort of revels in the moment. --! Robert Horton

In contrast to the restrictions of Joseon (1392-1910) society, their detailed sketches are free-spirited and vividly patterned. Anyone curious about the works and lives of these two painters can look forward to "Painter of the Wind", an upcoming 20-episode drama . Moon Geun-yeong, 21, plays Shin and Park Shin-yang, 40, plays her mentor, who later falls in love with her. Though in real life Shin (1758-early 19th century) and Kim (born in 1745) were both men, the historic drama adds a fictitious twist. Shin is a young lady whose father has died under suspicious circumstances, and she disguises herself as a man to solve the mystery. She becomes a member of the dohwaseo, a government-based royal painting institute. Women were not allowed to paint during the Joseon Dynasty. With Kim's help, she investigates her father's death. In the series, Moon wears gat, a traditional cylindrical hat formerly worn by married gentlemen, and dopo, a gentleman's robe. The historic drama is based on an eponymous novel by Lee Jung-myung. The book about the two painters, published last year, was a best seller. The drama is giving viewers a tantalizing glimpse into a set boasting detailed Joseon costumes, fine calligraphy and painstakingly created props.

BROWN BUNNY - DVD MovieAfter its scandalous screening at the 2004 Cannes film festival, Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny was cut from 118 to 92 minutes, and that made all the difference. The film that critic and long-time Cannes attendee Roger Ebert originally called "the worst film in the history of the festival" was transformed, by Gallo's judicious editing, into a perfectly acceptable if not universally respected art-house curio, widely criticized yet ripe for cult status, able to stand beside Gallo's Buffalo 66 as the work of a genuine artist with a singular vision. Yes, that vision is self-indulgent, narcissistic, and likely to turn off a majority of viewers with its glacial pace and endless shots of Gallo driving, driving, and driving some more. But in portraying a melancholy motorcycle racer who drives cross-country while mourning a private loss that rema! ins secret until the final scenes, Gallo gives us a character, and a film, that feels spiritually akin to such early '70s classics as Five Easy Pieces and Two-Lane Blacktop. It's a flawed yet ultimately moving example of maverick, unconventional cinema, and while Chloe Sevigny's explicit oral sex scene with Gallo is completely unnecessary, it's just one more element that places The Brown Bunny firmly, and refreshingly, out of the mainstream. --Jeff ShannonWhen a long weekend brings four women together in the countryside, each of them is forced to navigate the depths of social interaction as virtual strangers. How well do we really know the friends we make in adulthood? And in an age of lies, what can be made of the person who tells untruths so small they serve no obvious purpose?

But does either one of them really know what they want? And more importantly, do they have anything in common besides sex?Palace: Journey into the imaginative world of Palace where kings and queens still rule modern day Korea. Grand and beautiful, the palace becomes the home to a group of royals pulled into the political rivalries and romantic entanglements of palace life.

Shin (Joo Ji-Hoon) may be the picture-perfect Crown Prince, but he is aloof and wary of his royal status. Commoner Chae-Kyung (Yoon Eun-Hye) is headstrong and outspoken, but fiercely loyal to her loved ones. Their worlds un! expectedly collide when an arranged marriage makes them husband and wife! It's not exactly "happily ever after" for this royal odd couple as they try to make sense of their relationship. Life gets even more complicated when Prince Yool (Kim Jeong-Hoon) returns to the palace to compete for both Chae-Kyung's affection and the throne.

With vivid cinematography, elaborate costumes and set designs, and a fresh young cast, Palace is a spectacular visual experience. Sparks will fly when romance clashes with palace politics in this colorful romantic comedy.

Inside the White Tower: Based on Japanese novelist Yamazaki Toyoko's renowned work, Inside the White Tower brings Korean TV drama fans deep into the political inner workings of the medical field.

Brilliant and ambitious, Jang Joon-Hyuk (Kim Myung-Min, The Immortal Lee Soon-Shin) will do anything to become the next chief surgeon. But his new rival, Roh Min-Gook (Cha In-Pyo, Star in My H! eart), is more than willing to give Jang a taste of his own me! dicine. Committed to the well-being of his patients, fellow doctor Choi Do-Young (Lee Sun-Gyoon, Coffee Prince) is prepared to risk his career in order to do the right thing. Find out what really goes on Inside the White Tower.Spring Days: Go Hyun-Jung (Sandglass), one of the original Korean TV drama megastars, returns after a ten-year hiatus for the eagerly anticipated mini-series Spring Days. With the combined star power of Go Hyun-Jung, plus Ji Jin-Hee (Dae Jang Geum, Love Letter) and Jo In-Sung (Something Happened in Bali), Spring Days is definitely not your ordinary K-drama series!

Loosely adapted from the popular Japanese drama, Heaven's Coins, Spring Days tells the gripping story of Suh Jung-Eun (Go Hyun-Jung), an elusive beauty who has suffered a trauma so great that she loses the will to speak. Go Eun-Ho (Ji Jin-Hee) is the doctor who helps Jung-Eun find a way to overcome her past. But just when her gratitude starts to blossom into love, fate cruelly int! ervenes, leaving Eun-Ho in a coma. At the hospital Jung-Eun meets Eun-Ho's stepbrother Eun-Sup (Jo In-Sung), who is also a doctor. Despite his best intentions, Eun-Sup finds himself powerless to resist Jung-Eun. Latent rivalries and misunderstandings come to a boil as the two brothers vie for Jung-Eun's affection.

Featuring an all-star cast and a compelling story, Spring Days is a highly acclaimed 20-episode K-Drama for all seasons.

Someday: Hana Yamaguchi (Bae Doo-Na, The Host) is a successful young cartoonist. Although she writes romantic comics, she is analytical and pessimistic about love. Nicknamed the "Love Analyzer," Hana sees love as a simple biological response. But when her cartoon is discontinued, she sets off on a journey to discover what love really is. A Korean TV drama with a touch of animation, Someday tells the story of three people's journey into the crazy world of love.

The first Korean drama to integrate anim! ation and live action, Someday is like no drama that has come ! before. Through outstanding cinematography and visual design, this groundbreaking drama beautifully lenses Korea's contemporary urban landscape and peeks into the moody, imaginative world of a comic book artist. Written by movie screenwriter Kim Hee Jae (Hanbando), a "movie-like drama" with top-end production values, Someday features film star Bae Du Na (The Host), drama favorite Kim Min Joon (Lovers in Prague, Damo), and rising stars Lee Jin Wook and Oh Yoon Ah from Alone in Love. In contrast with its fanciful images, the drama stays candid and grounded in its exploration of modern relationships and romance, presenting a story that is both painfully realistic and longingly lighthearted.

Although Korean-Japanese cartoonist Yamaguchi Hana (Bae Du Na) has found great success with her romantic comic books, she herself doesn't believe in love. Raised by her grandmother, she is content to live in her own world of writing and drawing, but one day her comic gets discontinued. U! nceremoniously thrown back into the real world, Hana travels to Seoul where she meets Kim Seok Man (Lee Jin Wook), a kind-hearted private investigator with a tragic past, and Go Jin Pyo (Kim Min Joon), a doctor and ardent comic fan who observes life with a detached eye. As Hana retraces the tragic love story of her elderly neighbors with Seok Man and Jin Pyo's help, she realizes that she herself is experiencing love for the first time.

This edition comes with making of, interviews, trailers, music video, and other special features.Han Suk-kyu (Shiri, Tell Me Something) and Cha Seung-weon star in director K.T. Kwak's (Typhoon, Friend) crime thriller about an aging police captain who's lured back to the job on the eve of retirement to solve a most peculiar crime. Capt. The Worlds They Live / Worlds Within (Song Hye Kyo, Hyun Bin)/ Broadcasting station, especially television drama production, is often called as the core of desire and materialism. TV station is the place of envy for many people, but they also criticize it as the place where unethical thoughts are generalized. However, those who work in drama production team are not different from us; they are common people who need love and care just like others. Most of Korean dramas are focused on family problems and troubled relationships between lovers. However, for the moderners, workplace is where they spend most of their time. If one fails to build decent relationships with others in his workplace, it would be hard to read his life as a success. "Worlds Within" will bring out the stories of drama production staffs; the warm, touching stories of their love and life.

A super adventure of heroic proportions, this crowd-pleasing hit from Walt Disney Pictures stars Hollywood favorites Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston! The son of legendary heroes Commander (Russell) and Jetstream (Preston), young Will Stronghold carries huge expectations as he enters a high-tech high school known for molding the heroes of tomorrow. With no apparent superpowers of his own, however, Will seems destined to grow up a mere sidekick. But as he discovers his true strengths, he'll also learn ! that it takes loyalty and teamwork to truly become a hero! The idea of a high school for superheroes will appeal to teens and preteens, who struggle powerlessly with petty authoritarians, bullying peers, and their own rampant hormones, and Sky High spotlights young Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano, Lords of Dogtown), the son of top-of-the-heap superheroic couple the Commander (Kurt Russell, Tango & Cash) and Josie Jetstream (Kelly Preston, View from the Top). Unfortunately, though he's about to be dropped into the midst of kids who can stretch, turn to living stone, or shoot fire, Will has yet to develop any powers at all--and may never develop them. His development anxieties (and some entertaining metaphors for high school social hierarchies) contrast with a bubbling plot by an old foe of the Commander's to destroy Sky High and all of superhero-dom. Sky High has a great supporting cast (including Bruce Campbell, Army of Darkness; D! ave Foley, NewsRadio; Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman! ; and Cl oris Leachman, Young Frankenstein) and a handful of funny, offhand bits, but the bulk of the movie is bland and obvious. Younger kids may not mind the clumsy action scenes, generic dialogue, and tacky production design, but even comic-book-loving teenagers will label Sky High bargain-basement. --Bret Fetzer

--! Since this segment is filmed at a legendary dance club, it makes sense that this workout session is constructed of choreographed dance moves, that one c! an either use on the dance floor or keep under wraps at home. Vegas Strip's half-hour session will provide good cardiovascular exercise, depending on what one puts into it, though it mostly improves grace and coordination, in easy-to-learn segments set to pulsating dance music. This is equally valuable since the premise of this series is to feel sexy and have fun while working out. Though it does appear to be more of a lesson in choreography, Vegas Strip clearly demonstrates the challenge implicit to such sexed-up dance moves, and may give those who shun dirty dancing a respect for the real professionals. â€"Trinie DaltonMATING HABITS OF THE EARTHBOUND HUMAN - DVD MovieThis whimsical sex comedy presents itself as an alien documentary on the rituals and habits of terrestrial romance. Featuring Mackenzie Astin (The Last Days of Disco) and a tightly clad Carmen Electra (from the once-popular TV show Baywatch) as the Male and Female, the mo! vie's at its best when the alien's commentary (voiced with su! percilio us aplomb by David Hyde Pierce, Wolf, Frasier) misinterprets flirting behavior at nightclubs. The jokes grow thinner as dating turns into a relationship (and the humor's perspective is decidedly male). Still, there are moments of wit, and the overall tone of The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human is more silly than smarmy, which sets it apart from most of the sex comedy genre. Also featuring Lucy Liu (Charlie's Angels). --Bret FetzerI WANT CANDY follows two hopefuls trying to break into the movies. True Romance

  • This rock'n'roll adventure story tells of two unlikely lovers who accidentally double-cross the Detroit mob by stealing valuable contraband. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, flee to Los Angeles where they are sought by both gangsters and cops. Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE Rating: NR Age: 085391163275 UPC: 085391163275 Manufacturer No: 11632
A young San Francisco widow is swept into a political uprising in Burma after her sister reluctantly drags her on a Southeast Asia tour.Working at the top of his form, John Boorman is a director who can pursue the poetry of his personal obsessions within the framework of a dynamic thriller and not shortchange the film. Beyond Rangoon involves a journey into unfamiliar territory: the rivers, jungles, and war-torn backcountry of Burma in 1988; But it also ventures into the mythic Arthurian terrain of such seemingly disparate f! ilms as Excalibur, Point Blank, and Deliverance. This time, uniquely in this director's work, the quester is a woman. American doctor Laura Bowman (Patricia Arquette) regards her life as having ended after the brutal murder of her husband and their little boy by home invaders. Her sister (Frances McDormand) has persuaded her to come along on a sightseeing tour of Burma. The trip leaves Laura numb until, impulsively venturing into the night alone, she becomes witness to a crisis moment in history: the beginning of the military dictatorship's violent crackdown on the rising democracy movement. The sight of Aung San Suu Kyi, the dissidents' inspirational leader, facing down a wall of armed soldiers with only the power of serene self-possession inspires Laura (an amazing scene--and it really did happen).

But that's only the beginning of Laura’s movement toward enlightenment, and back to life. Beyond Rangoon abounds in memorable encounters--with! individuals variously supportive and terrifying, and with loc! ations a nd situations where hope and catastrophe trade off like valences of the same energy. As critic Kathleen Murphy has noted, "It's as though the fabric of reality shivers like water, racking focus into a new, altered pattern of experience." (Case in point: the startling image of a car's rear window star-shattered by a pursuer's bullet as Laura drives down an almost nonexistent jungle road--the pursuit car sharply irised in the bullet hole.) Boorman makes us feel the total chaos of a spectacularly beautiful land that is not only at the mercy of a brutal regime but utterly cut off from an outside world that doesn't, can't, know what's happening there. In this, Boorman's movie immeasurably increased awareness of Burma's tragedy, but it hasn't prevented the government of what's now called Myanmar from keeping Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest more than 20 years later. --Richard T. JamesonOverlooked and underrated, "Goodbye Lover" is a tawdry, tasty film noir with a soft sp! ot for its scheming antiheroine. Weary stud Ben falls prey to simultaneous affairs with Sandra and his devoted secretary (Mary-Louise Parker), and the cynical Detective Pompano (Ellen DeGeneres) unravels the murder-for-insurance plot while her clueless Mormon partner (Ray McKinnon) tries to keep pace. Lila (Patricia Arquette, Lost Highway, True Romance), a nature writer who grows hair all over her body, falls in love with Nathan (Tim Robbins, The Player, The Hudsucker Proxy), a scientist attempting to teach table manners to mice. While hiking in the woods, they discover Puff (Rhys Ifans, Notting Hill), a man raised in the wild since childhood, whom Nathan seizes as a test subject for his experiments--and soon these three, along with Nathan's French lab assistant (Miranda Otto) are embroiled in criss-crossed love affairs as they (and the audience) attempt to figure out what it means to be true to one's own nature. Though Human Nature isn't as surefooted as Being John Malkovich (which was also written by distinctive screenwriter Charli! e Kaufma n), it has moments of startling comic genius. --Bret FetzerA lost soul has just received the wounds of Christ and a shocking message that will alter history. Stunning performances from Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Jonathan Pryce (Ronin) and a cutting edge score by Billy Corgan of The SmashingPumpkins and Elia Cmiral make Stigmata a visual and visceral feast (Entertainment Today). Frankie Paige (Arquette) has absolutely no faith in God. All of that changes when she suddenly begins to suffer the Stigmatathe living wounds of the crucified Christ. Frankie's miraculous bleeding comes to the attention of the Vatican's top investigator, Father Kiernan (Byrne). But when Cardinal Houseman (Pryce), discovers that Frankie is actually channeling an extraordinary and provocative message that could destroy the Church, he's convinced that she - and the force possessing hermust be forever silenced. Determined to stop this deadly conspir! acy, Kiernan risks his faithandhis lifeto save her and the message that will change the destiny of mankind forever!Gabriel Byrne plays Father Kiernan, a young Jesuit priest whose degree in chemistry makes him a sort of priest/detective as he investigates weeping Marys and the like around the world. Meanwhile, Frankie (Patricia Arquette), a rave-generation Pittsburgher, is afflicted with the stigmata--holes that appear in her wrists, resembling the wounds of Christ. The young woman's symptoms filter back to the Vatican and Father Kiernan is assigned to the case. The priest is puzzled by Frankie's atheism; usually the stigmata only appear on the devout (hence the age-old controversy of miracles vs. hysteria). Other manifestations appear on Frankie, and the priest's cardinal (Jonathan Pryce) is brought in, leading to political maneuvering within the Church hierarchy. The film owes a large and obvious debt to The Exorcist (at one point, Frankie's bed scoots across t! he room and she levitates into a crucifix position), but to te! rm it an Exorcist rip-off would be to shortchange Stigmata. The premise and screenplay are more cerebral than in the l973 film, and the source of the phenomenon is coming from a completely different place.

Unfortunately, amid Stigmata's high-octane editing and slick technique, the chills of The Exorcist aren't there, giving the movie a sort of identity crisis: horror movie or intellectual thriller? Several elements of the film challenge basic tenets of the Catholic faith, hence the brief furor that erupted at the time of the film's release; if nothing else, the internal workings of the Church are shown in a very unflattering light indeed. Byrne excels as the skeptical priest, as does Arquette as the tortured young woman. All told, Stigmata is a rather uneven effort, but one with a thought-provoking combination of theology and thrills served up in a thoroughly modern, stylish package. Fans of TV's Ally McBeal will recognize Portia DeRo! ssi in a supporting role. --Jerry RenshawStudio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 06/21/2011 Run time: 563 minutesThis psychological thriller combines murder, mystery and deception as only David Lynch, the critically acclaimed director and writer of Blue Velvet and Dune, can. Lost Highway will keep viewers on the edge of their seats up until the explosive, unforgettable ending!Plot is a meaningless term when trying to describe Lost Highway. Here, more or less, is what happens: A noise-jazz saxophonist (Bill Pullman) suspects his wife (Patricia Arquette) of infidelity. Meanwhile, someone is breaking into their house and videotaping them while they sleep. The wife is murdered and Pullman is convicted of the crime. Then, in prison, he transmogrifies into a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) who is subsequently released, since, after all, he's not the guy they convicted. Getty goes back to his life and meets a local gangster's moll, who ha! ppens to be played by Patricia Arquette... but none of this ha! s much t o do with what the movie is really about. Dreams are what intrigues director David Lynch. Not friendly, happy dreams; his dreams whisper that what we think is real is just something we made up, something to keep ourselves from falling into chaos. Characters are fragments. Events happen not because they make sense, but because deep down we want these things to happen. Of course, in Lynch's dreams, as in our waking lives, getting what we want is not always pleasant. In the movie's best moments, you really have no idea what you're seeing. The screen is a big rectangle of color and shadow, but what it represents, well, it could be anything. And yet, in those moments, you've been given just enough hints of place, character, and story that these elusive images elicit a genuine dread, a sense that you might not want to see this, yet you can't look away; a sense that we are living on borrowed time, that something is fiercely askew in our psyches. As a whole, Lost Highway is a! failure: much of it is padded, gratuitous, and indulgent and pointless cameos bog down an already sluggish narrative. Yet within that failure are moments worth more than the entirety of most successful movies. --Bret FetzerTRUE ROMANCE - DVD MovieIt was directed with energetic skill by Top Gun Tony Scott, but this breathtaking 1993 thriller (think of it as an adolescent crime fantasy on steroids) has Quentin Tarantino written all over it. True Romance is really part of a loose trilogy that includes Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, with a crackling Tarantino screenplay that rides a fine line between raucous comedy and violent excess. Christian Slater plays Clarence, the comic-book lover who meets a beguiling prostitute named Alabama (Patricia Arquette), confronts her vicious pimp (Gary Oldman), and embarks on a cross-country odyssey with $5 million worth of Mafia cocaine. Mayhem ensues, culminating in a favorite Tarantino climax--the "Mexi! can standoff"--in which a roomful of guys are pointing guns at! each ot her, waiting to see who shoots first. Brutal, profane, and totally outrageous, True Romance is not for everyone, but with a supporting cast that includes Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt, and Val Kilmer (as the ghost of Elvis!), you can be sure this movie will never be boring. --Jeff Shannon

Wicker Park

  • Condition: New
  • Format: DVD
  • AC-3; Closed-captioned; Color; Dolby; Dubbed; DVD; Subtitled; Widescreen; NTSC
Enter the torrid and treacherous world of Wicker Park, where deception and seduction walk hand in hand. Starring an outstanding cast of Hollywood's hottest young stars, including Josh Hartnett(Pearl Harbor), Rose Byrne (City of Ghosts), Matthew Lillard (Scream) and Diane Kruger (Troy), Wicker Park is a sizzling, action-packed noir thriller that will leave you breathless. What if the woman you loved disappeared without a word? Without a trace? How far would you go to find her again? When Matthew (Hartnett) glimpses his lost love (Kruger) in a crowdedcafÃ(c), he's determined not to lose her a second time. But determination soon turns to obsession, as Matthew finds himself on a dangerous and chilling journey, where no one is who they seem and chance meetings with a sexy bru! nette (Byrne) might unravel friendships, careers and lives. No, Josh Hartnett doesn't make the most convincing corporate up-and-comer in the world, but then Matthew, his character in this pensive romantic drama, is supposed to be uncomfortable in his business costume. He's a photographer at heart, a sensitive guy who abandoned that passion when Lisa (Diane Kruger), his enigmatic other true love, abandoned him. Their romance had an oddly abrupt end after Lisa left without a word, so when Matthew thinks he sees her upon returning to Chicago, he starts lying to his fiancée and practically stalking his old flame before becoming entangled in a strange tryst with a lovesick nurse (Rose Byrne). The MGM publicity department busied itself trying to promote this remake of L'Appartement (1996) as some kind of heavy-breathing Fatal Attraction, and director Paul McGuigan certainly fills it with enough slick split-screens and MTV-soundtrack moments to hype it, yet it isn't ! even remotely a thriller. There are flashbacks upon flashbacks! --Van illa Sky begins to feel linear in comparison--and the screenplay insists on spelling everything out so we'll be sure to get how thoughtful it really is, but it all isn't half bad. Though Hartnett is a little out of his depth, his gentle, beleaguered masculinity works well, and the women are both compelling: Kruger redeems herself after being more wooden than the Trojan Horse in Troy, and Byrne is quite good. Even Matthew Lillard does solid work as Matthew's vulnerable, big-talking buddy. Somewhere in all of it is a surprisingly adult look at the things people do when love seems either too perilously close or too far away to believe in. --Steve Wiecking

The Haunted Sea

  • Directed by: Daniel Patrick
  • Written by: Thomas Cleaver
  • Cast: James Brolin ("The Reagans", "Hotel"), Joanna Pacula ("The Hit", "Tombstone"), Krista Allen ("Confession of a Dangerous Mind")
  • Year: 1997
Executive-produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney (Ocean's 11, Ocean's 12), UNSCRIPTED is an innovative half-hour comedy series that fuses reality and fiction to chronicle the lives of three struggling young actors as they navigate the rough waters of show business. Starring Krista Allen, Bryan Greenberg and Jennifer Hall, essentially playing themselves, and co-starring screen veteran Frank Langella as Goddard Fulton, a noted actor who leads them in an acting workshop at Los Angeles' fabled Tamarind Theater, UNSCRIPTED offers a revealing look at the sometimes raucous, often disillusioning world of the fledgling actor.

DVD Features:

Unscripted is to cable TV as A Chorus Line is to Broadway: a look at the performers in the smaller roles. Produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney (who also directs), the HBO comedy follows the trials and tribulations of three real-life actors, Krista Allen, Jennifer Hall, and Bryan Greenberg. The 10-part series isn't documentary, soap opera, or sitcom, but a combination of the three. It's up to the viewer to figure out where one ends and the other begins. Complicating matters is the character of Goddard Fulton (Frank Langella, Good Night, and Good Luck), an acting coach--and celebrated lothario--trying to help these young thespians step up their game.

In the pilot, Allen stops by The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn to talk about her latest role: tequila spokesmodel. It may not be acting, but she has a son to support and it's an improvement on her softcore Emmanuelle past. In the same e! pisode, Greenberg has a walk-on on ER and Hall has a st! and-in o n The George Lopez Show. In subsequent episodes, Allen guests on Jake in Progress and Hall does stand-in and background work on Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Constantine. Greenberg hits the greatest heights when a recurring role on One Tree Hill leads to a starring role in Prime--opposite Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep. All go to humiliating auditions for parts they don't get.

As expected from a Clooney/Soderbergh production, stars abound, including Noah Wylie, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Hank Azaria, Keanu Reeves, and Sam Rockwell (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which featured Allen and Hall). Like improvised predecessor Curb Your Enthusiasm, most play themselves. Despite greater critical acclaim, Unscripted, like K Street before it, was not renewed for a second season. It deserved better. --Kathleen C. FennessyA drifting ship on the high seas holds ancient Aztec figurines stolen by the conquistadors.!
